ARTISSIMA
30th EDITION
FR >
From 03 to 05 November 2023
Oval, Torino
GALERIE CHLOE SALGADO is pleased to invite you to the thirtieeth edition of ARTISSIMA, Italy's most important contemporary art fair, where it will present a duo show of CAMILLE BENARAB-LOPEZ and JULIAN SIMON.
CAMILLE BENARAB-LOPEZ (France, 1989) is a visual artist. She collects images from various sources, and alters them, before reprinting and reassembling them using various materials and techniques. In her recent works, Camille has been using a recently recovered family archive as one of her main ressources. The images she found talk about love, loss and exile, and evoke the stories of many immigrant families of modest origins — here Kabyle and Spanish. Camille has taken upon herself to care for these found memories, to try to heal their wounds, and to celebrate their individual and collective stories.
JULIAN SIMON (Germany, 1994) is a painter. He reproduces in oil paint, and in a highly realistic style, anodyne scenes and details of everyday life. In his recent works, Julian has been painting in his realist compositions, subtly surrealist elements, that seem to be made out of modeling clay. Childlike in their rough forms and primary colors, these clay-like elements contrast with their realistic backgrounds and tint them mystery, worry or humor. Julian thus creates intimate paintings in which he shares his memories, dreams and fears, in an almost cathartic way.
By mixing elements of different nature or sources in their works, both artists offer new forms of apprehension of our daily routines and reality.
